Dear Friends,
The Peace and Justice Network has exciting plans for 2009. On March
28, we will sponsor a Concert for Peace & Justice featuring a
performance by singer songwriter, Eliza Gilkyson. In addition, her
partner Dr. Robert Jensen, a noted author and activist, will speak
briefly about our most urgent challenges as we work to fulfill our
mission towards building a more peaceful, just and sustainable world.
Eliza Gilkyson is a folk singer and Grammy nominated artist whose
latest album, Beautiful World, has been hailed as one of the best
contemporary folk albums of 2008. The leading music website,
Allmusic.com, has called it a masterpiece. Her latest music covers a
wide range of genres. Gilkyson is acclaimed for her poetic and
insightful lyrics, with songs that evoke the social, political and
environmental issues that challenge our world. Her music shifts
effortlessly from lilting melodies that touch the heart, to up-tempo
tunes that penetrate the spirit.
This concert will be part of a weekend that kicks off the PJN's
alliance building project, which will include regularly scheduled
events throughout the year for all peace, justice and sustainability
organizations who are seeking stronger community alliances, bridging
opportunities and greater connections between our mutual efforts and
projects. More information is forthcoming about this program and
organizing effort.
Your participation in the planning and development of this concert
program would be greatly appreciated. Our next Concert Planning
meeting is on January 30, 4:00 pm at the Green Bean. Our next Alliance
Building meeting is February 5, 6:00 pm in the basement of the old
Temple Emanuel, at the corner of N. Greene and Florence, adjacent to
the NCCJ office, 713 N. Greene Street. The entrance to the basement
is just around the corner of the Temple on the Florence Street side.
The steps are ten, fifteen feet from the front of the building. If
you are interested in joining us at either of these meetings, please
let us know by replying to this email.
Thank you for your support of the PJN. We are looking forward to a
new year of working together for peace and justice.
