Labor Against the War (NCLAW), People Power for Economic Justice, and the Piedmont Triad Labor Party Background Information: Elie Domota, General Secretary, General Union of Workers of Guadaloupe and Fignole Saint Cyr, General Secretary of the Autonomous Confederation of Haitian Workers will speak in Greensboro on Tuesday evening, July 7th at the Meet and Greet these two outstanding leaders from 6:30 PM until 7:00 PM. The formal meeting will take place from 7:00 PM until 8:30 PM. This will be the only stop in the South by these two outstanding trade union and peoples leaders during their entire US tour.

Fignole Saint Cyr and the Confederation of Haitian Workers are leading the struggle to restore democracy after the US government removed democratically elected President Aristide and U.N. troops occupied the country.

Elie Domota led the coalition of 50 organizations which won a 44 day General Strike in Guadaloupe earlier this year. This victory resulted in a $250 per month pay raise for low paid workers, jobs for youth, reduction in prices on necessary items and a moratorium on home foreclosures, among other things. Come find out about this great victory as we learn to “fight back” against massive loss of jobs, healthcare, pensions and homes here in the USA.

Please join Greensboro faith and community leaders who are gathering at Faith Action International House at 11am in advance of a White House meeting on immigration on Thursday, June 25. We are calling on our Senators and Congressional representatives to take action on just and humane immigration reform and urging President Obama and Congress to move legislation forward this year. We are seeking swift and meaningful immigration reform that unites families, protects workers, and treats all immigrants fairly and humanely. Speakers will include Dr. Maria Teresa Palmer and Rev. Nelson Johnson (invited).

This press conference coincides with a scheduled meeting between President Obama and congressional leaders to address immigration issues in our country.

Background Info: At the request of both American and Iranian members of our community, the PCC announces that on Friday, June 26, there will be a silent vigil to honor the dead, and to call for an end to the violence in Iran. The images that have flooded our televisions and filled our electronic mailboxes have horrified every American household, but especially those with family and friends in the streets of Tehran and other cities where demonstrations have been violently suppressed by the Iranian government. We invite anyone who is against the violence, disturbed by the recent elections, and supportive of democracy to stand with us as we silently show our support for Iran's fallen innocents.

We encourage participants to bring signs that are positive (calling for peace, democracy, and an end to violence and suppression of human rights) and to avoid negative slogans (please no "marg bar... fulon"... this is about bringing violence to an end).

Bring candles if you plan to stay until dark, and bring poetry or instruments if you would like.

We have bigger-breasted chickens, the perfect pork chop, insecticide-resistant soybean seeds, even tomatoes that won't go bad, but we also have new strains of E. coli—the harmful bacteria that causes illness for an estimated 73,000 Americans annually. We are riddled with widespread obesity, particularly among children, and an epidemic level of diabetes among adults.

The United Electrical Workers Union (UE) has called for protests in various cities in response to Wells Fargo/Wachovia Bank withdrawing the credit line to a die casting factory in Moline IL. The action of Wells Fargo/Wachovia, which received billions of dollars of bail out money, will put the company out of business and destroy over 100 jobs.
