Show of numbers at a special Greensboro City Council meeting in support of Greensboro joining the original U.S. Mayors' Climate Protection Agreement

City Council has been slow to act to reduce the city's impact on climate change, and several members would like the Council to adopt a weaker version of the Agreement, which mandates specific reductions in greenhouse gas emissions (equivalent to the Kyoto Protocol). Concerned citizens are needed to show the Council that we will accept nothing less than Greensboro agreeing to the full original Agreement. Please bring friends and neighbors. Parking is free at the city-owned lot adjacent to the Melvin Building.

Cool Cities Meeting – Monday, February 5, 2007

The US Mayors Climate Protection Agreement has been adopted by hundreds of cities across the US that aren’t willing to wait for the federal government to take the lead on reducing global warming emissions. The Agreement is a comprehensive approach to the many ways a city can reduce environmental degradation and protect the health of its citizens.

Greensboro’s "Cool Cities" group is working to have our City sign on to this Agreement. We plan a presentation to the City Council to be done in April, in conjunction with Earth Day. We can use more help and support with our efforts. Please look over the US Mayors Climate Protection Agreement (see below). You’re also invited to our next Cool Cities meeting, where we will be updating the status of this and other initiatives we have under way. The meeting is Monday February 5th at 6:30 p.m. in the small meeting room at the Kathleen Edwards Clay library (on the old Jefferson Pilot grounds near Hobbs and New Garden).

Peter Kauber, Guilford Solar Communities Program, will talk about personal projects for advancing renewable energy and energy efficiency. Following these talks there will be Breakout Groups with Speakers.
