How do I get something publicized on the PJN?
To ask for an announcement to be sent out on the PJN, please email us at pjn@triad.rr.com, and include the following:
- Name of meeting, action or event (for example: a forum, demonstration, letter-writing campaign, etc.)
- Sponsor of event
- Date, time and place of event
- Description of event (one or two sentences)
- Contact person¹s phone/email for further information for the public
- Name and phone number of someone who can be contacted if PJN needs to clarify the information before it is sent out.
After PJN has received a request for announcement, a volunteer initiator will review the information to ensure that it is complete and fits the mission of the PJN. If so, it will be put on the calendar of monthly meetings or sent out as a special announcement. If the action or event is an immediate response to an event, we will get the announcement out as quickly as possible. Otherwise please send the announcement to PJN at least 3 days before it needs to be publicized.
Can we announce our regularly scheduled meetings and activities?
Yes--announcements of regularly scheduled meetings are posted on the web site calendar; the calendar summary is emailed to the PJN membership at the beginning of every month.
How often will there be announcements?
The number of announcements on the PJN has averaged 2-3 per week. Thereare periods when PJN is quite busy, and other times when there is less social action to announce. The initiators have the responsibility to oversee the announcements and may need to limit the frequency and length of items proposed by an individual or group.
What kind of issues/events will the PJN cover?
The PJN is designed primarily to strengthen local organizing, so local issues are the main focus. However, a state, national, or international issue can be included on the PJRN if someone locally is organizing a response and wants local participation. The issue areas that PJN covers include:
- Animal rights and welfare
- Better government
- Criminal justice
- Cultural and ethnic diversity
- Death penalty
- Education
- Environment
- Gender
- Peace
- Racial justice
- Economic justice
- Sexual orientation and identity
- Sustainable growth
- Youth
What if I'm opposed to one of the issues being announced?
There will certainly be controversial events or issues that are publicized in the PJN. However, please remember that all requested responses are optional, and you may simply delete any action alert or announcement that you are opposed to.
